Virgil Wong, Missing Persons, 2007. Ink and pencil on rice paper, 6′ X 2′
Missing Persons combines Chinese calligraphy from a Ming Dynasty scroll with a drawing by Virgil Wong based on a radiographic image of a child. The text is from a group of poems entitled “The Autumn Mood” (qiuxing bashou 秋興八首) by the great Tang dynasty poet Du Fu 杜甫 (712-770). The scanned calligraphy was originally written by the calligrapher Zhu Yunming 祝允明 or Zhu Zhishan 祝枝山 in the 16th century.
